Title: Daffodil Morning
Fandom: CSI: MIami
Character: Horatio Caine
Theme#: 2 Awkward Silence
Disclaimer: I don't own the character. More's the pity because I could take better care of him than the crack writers and their big, bad production company. Not making any money off of this.
Horatio woke to the smell of fresh brewed coffee, bacon and eggs, and blueberry muffins. His mouth started to water as he pulled himself up to rest against the headboard.
He watched Rhonda stroll into the room with a bed tray laden with breakfast items and a vase with a daffodil in it. He smiled. It was nice to play hooky.
“I should call off more often,” he casually observed.
“Oh?” Rhonda regarded him with a raised eyebrow. She handed him the tray and then crawled into the bed next to him. “Wouldn’t it be easier to just retire and runaway to the Keys with me instead?”
Horatio dipped his head and bit his lip. The thought of retiring had been running around his mind of late. He was getting tired of being Miami’s savior; her avenging angel. “Is that a marriage proposal, Slim?” he half-teased looking up at her. “If so, the answer is yes.”
Rhonda shook her head. She didn’t know what to say, and for the first time in their relationship an awkward silence developed between them.
Several minutes passed before Horatio broke the silence. “Did I say something wrong?”
“I never pegged you for marriage,” Rhonda honestly admitted.
“I tried it once,” Horatio explained. “It didn’t work out, but I’m willing to try again, if you’re interested that is.”
“Yes,” Rhonda accepted.
